Happy (almost) New Year

It's new years eve and I just realized I never wished you guys a merry christmas, nor did I give any fashion ideas for the holidays. My apologies and merry belated Christmas and happy new year (tomorrow). So i guess that means that today i should say "Happy New Years Eve!"

I am now going to try to make up for the lack of holiday inspiration.
So here we go.....
If I were to be going to a fancy new years party I would wear:
I would add a colored sweater for a pop of color and black leggings to keep warm. (It may be southern california, but it's still cold.)

another option i would wear:
I would add a black belt to define the waist. I would also wear black or gray tights and depending on how i was feeling, wear either black boots or black heels.

Here is a perfect holiday dress from modcloth

So it's not much, but hopefully if you needed a last minute new years outfit idea, this was able to come in handy. And if not...oh well. I suppose that means you planned ahead or just know how to put an outfit together. SO if that applies to you, Congratulations!!!!! (clearly you are more prepared than me since i have no idea what i will wear tonight, and i don't plan to wear a dress. Wow, I wasn't even able to help myself.)

The next time i blog again will be next year. That just seems so weird.
Have a safe, fabulous, and fashionable new years eve/day!!!!!!

uhhh yah....about that....

If you are wondering what happened to day 6,7,8,9,10 of my sweater challenge, WELL i failed after day 6. I wore a sweater day 6, but failed to photograph it. Day 7 and 8 involved me wearing pajamas until work and then putting them back on as soon as i got home. (they were long exhausting work days---the ones where the day just replays in your mind over and over. And then even when you go to sleep it still continues, and gets even worse) Day 9 and 10, ummm most of those days were spent in pjs too and to top it off, day 10 was a "Nothing looks right" kind of day. Trying to wear a sweater and turn it into a cute outfit was completely out of the picture. I apologize to those who were pulling for me and believed I could complete this challenge. I know I have failed you. Don't spend too much time mourning the loss of the sweater posts.

FYI: this challenge was a hassle especially since its winter break and there are many days that i don't leave the house or don't have a need to change out of pajamas/sweatpants (which I don't wear out of the house). SO its kind of a relief to have failed. Of course it won't stop me from wearing sweaters frequently, but it takes the pressure off of having to wear a different one each day, and making it a little creative, and so on. I will continue to post pictures of how I wear each sweater, just know that they won't happen consistently.

On a happier non-failing note:
Last night me and my parents went out to do some christmas shopping. We went to Kohls, Old Navy, and then to Burlington Coat Factory-an absolutely wonderful place for someone like me. The plan was to find my dad a peacoat. Instead we found me a very belated birthday present and a christmas/next birthday present. So the belated birthday(as in my birthday is in february) coat is black and if it could talk it would scream "this was made for Holly". Its wonderful and has cute pleated details.

(sorry its slightly blurry)
So happy belated birthday to me. Thanks mom

Day four and five

Day 4
Yellow zipper front sweater from old navy
Story time:
Day 4 almost ruined my challenge.
I didn't wake up until 11a.m., didn't have class, and didn't get dressed until it was time for work.
So where's the problem? I didn't know when I was going to wear a sweater.
My solution: Wear a sweater to work- it was cold enough.
I pulled it off and was happy to continue my challenge without failing four days in (which would have been lame).

Day 5

Announcing..... My Sweater Challenge

In honor of winter coming and cold weather arriving (aside from today), I am breaking out all of my sweaters for the next 25 days. In case you forgot, I have 25 sweaters (YIKES). So over the next 25 days I am going to wear a different sweater each day. (Man, how many times can I use the word sweater and 25???...enough to be obnoxious and annoying, I think so)

So get ready for:
-Lots of posts (several a week)
-Lots of knit
-Lots of new ways to wear sweaters (hopefully)
-Lots of me, since I'm the one wearing them

A little bit country...A lot a bit wonderful

Why not have a blog post devoted to Taylor Swift???  Yeah, I couldn't think of a reason not to. She has amazing style, so why not celebrate it. Imitation is the best form of flattery, right? Right.

Recently TS performed on the ellen show. Her black lace dress was amazing. So of course I looked for it or something similar. Here is what I found:
And here is another one I found

Her style is fairly vintage inspired, which I love,
AND Lately she has been spotted in polka dot dresses.

Oh and Political polls may be closed, But my polls are open

Stepping Back in Time

Im sure we all know that styles from the past come back into fashion. My question is, what causes this to happen? Although I don't know what causes change in fashion as a whole, I do recognize the causes for small changes. TV shows have a huge influence on fashion, especially shows based in other decades.

Lets take the show Mad Men for example. Although I have never seen the award winning show, I know that it takes place in the 1960s. I have also noticed that the fashion seen on the show is appearing in magazines and stores.

The Women of Mad Men
Although it doesn't seem like people would still be wearing these types of clothes, the dress from the middle has come back into fashion. Here is some proof from modcloth along with links for each dress.

Thank you Mad Men and AMC for taking us back in time and exposing us to the amazing and beautiful fashion from the past.

So many other shows also influence fashion.

Make it work

Tim Gunn uses the phrase, "make it work," and that is what I was doing last week. A week of "projects" has come to an end. Last week involved making a dress into a skirt, making my Halloween costume, and watching the finale of project runway.

Dress to Skirt
This dress did not fit properly since my natural waist is much lower than the waist band of the dress. So I figured why not lose the top of the dress and make it a skirt. Tuesday I pulled out the seam ripper and got to work.

Now it's a skirt

Halloween Costume
Supplies:
-safety pins
-stuffed animals
-dress
-white tights

All of these items come together to form a glee/lady gaga costume.
In the show glee, they did a lady gaga episode titled "theatricality." Rachel Berry wore a "beanie babies" dress that was put together using staples. She clearly didn't know the benefits (things staying put) of safety pins. The one unfortunate aspect of using safety pins instead of staples is no body could use Kurt's line and say "we have a jumper."
FYI: The costume was worked on over several days, I didn't document how many hours it took to make, and it weighed about 15 pounds.

Project Runway
Thursday was the season finale of Project Runway. The 3 finalists were amazing, and they truly made it work.  I definitely favored Gretchen and Mondo. I was slightly conflicted on who to pull for when it got down to these two finalists. I felt like there was no wrong choice for the winner, and the judges were just as conflicted as I was. I won't say who won just in case people haven't watched it yet....but you'd have to be crazy to wait that long after the finale. I will say this... I am so happy this person won, and I feel like this win will really help them financially-and they desperately needed that.

Final 3: Mondo, Gretchen, Andy
